Hospice Volunteers Needed For New Partnership

Picture
Stella Maris is pleased to announce its partnership with the Senator Bob Hooper House, a residential hospice in Forest Hill, Maryland, that is part of Upper Chesapeake Health. Stella Maris will provide the Hooper House with specialized medical care, spiritual counseling, family education and on-call services 24 hours a day.

The partnership with the Hooper House is in step with Stella Maris’ goal of expanding its presence in the community. It also increases the need for hospice volunteers, particularly those located in and around Harford County. Volunteers will play a vital role in the Hooper House operations as this new venture grows its permanent staff.

Volunteers are needed for direct patient care – refreshing water glasses and providing comfort and conversation, for example – as well as for administrative work including answering phones, filing, light cleaning and meal preparation. To become a hospice volunteer, individuals must apply then complete an interview and 16 to 18 hours of training.

If you are interested in becoming a hospice volunteer for Stella Maris or the Senator Bob Hooper House, please contact Marianne Yannarell, Director of Volunteer Services, at 410-252-4500, extension 7315.
